Youth Employment Service

Do you remember your first job? Maybe you worked on the farm, babysat, or flipped

burgers. It may not have been glamorous, but it likely taught you some good lessons about work, managing some pocket change, and the 'real world'.

The Youth Employment Service (Y.E.S.) is a 12 week summer program that offers teens in our neighborhood the opportunity to learn those same lessons. For most of the 14-18 year olds, the Y.E.S. program will be their first work experience.

Y.E.S. employees spend the summer mowing lawns for customers in the community. In addition to gaining work experience, the teens participate in a Jobs for Life career training class which is taught by a volunteer from a local law firm. Topics covered in the class include money management principles, employee expectations, resume writing, and interview skills.

The teens are also given the opportunity to learn from a number of local business leaders who speak to the employees about their career path and the importance of continuing in education.
